2024 in Review

Perhaps it’s because I’m forgetful about updating this blog. Or maybe it’s just that we’ve been doing so much stuff this past year that it’s hard to find time to sit down and refresh the website. Either way, I suppose it’s time to post some updates as to what the Elling Lab has been doing in the last year.

2024 was a big year for our group. To start, we welcomed Abdul Bashir to the group in the spring as our second PhD student. During spring 2023, Angela and Maya completed senior theses on the synthesis of benzene diepoxides and pericyclic reaction reversibility, respectively. Jeremy became the group’s second master’s student, having successfully defended his thesis. These three along with Alex all graduated during commencement in the summer.

In the summer, we welcomed Dexter to the group along with Mike Bunce, visiting us from Quinnipiac University and Nidhi Bhat, a summer high school student. A big focus of our summer was finishing up the work on two manuscripts, which we submitted this fall and are now available online!

Additionally, this fall Jessa passed their candidacy exam! Now they get to spend even more time with us in the lab!

This year was a big one, but I’m confident we’ll have even more in the new year!
